HAN University:

Interactive Floors for Innovative Healthcare

healthcare solutions with floors

The ‘Empathetic Living Environment’, known in Dutch as Empathische Woning, is a research programme seeking to find healthcare solutions. The main objective is to support independent living for vulnerable people.

Their Guiding Environment project caters to the elderly, specifically those exhibiting early signs of dementia.

The goal of the project is to create a space that is responsive to their needs, and which can help them maintain their health. In essence, creating a SMART living environment unique to each user.

THE REQUEST

Energy Floors was asked to provide an indoor floor solution, home-friendly and integrated with visuals that can aid them in their day-to-day life.

THE SOLUTION

Our solar energy floors were installed in the prototype house in Arnhem, The Netherlands. By integrating our floor tiles into the living space, the research team investigate how the elderly respond to the light signals from the energy floor, and whether the floor encourages them to move more.

Energy Floors are included in an online toolbox alongside other innovative healthcare solutions for housing. The toolbox acts as a catalogue for more ideas about implementation for smart houses. More information can be found on their website.
