Christ the Redeemer statue turns green for

energy, Rio de Janeiro

christ the redeemer energy

Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro turns green to promote clean energy.

Back in 2014, we installed our kinetic energy floor tiles underneath the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, atop Corcovado hill.

The energy generated by dancing tourists charged smartphones and powered a photo app.

Most importantly however, the energy lit the statue in green and powered a laser beam that gave the Christ statue a ‘beating heart’. Watch the video.

For this project we joined forces with Furnas, Arquidiocese do Rio de Janeiro and EcoGreens, Energy Floors’ partner in Brazil.

Energy Floors’ energy generating tiles convert kinetic energy from human movement into usable electricity. The generated energy can be used to power LED light bulbs, interactive commercials or charge smartphones.
