Kinetic Energy Floor:
How much power is generated?

Nov 28, 2023

In our quest for cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, the Energy Floors concept of kinetic floors has emerged as an exciting and innovative idea. These floors, designed to harness the energy generated by human movement, offer a unique opportunity to raise awareness about our energy consumption and inspire positive change, even if the actual energy generated is limited.

Kinetic energy floors, embedded with materials that convert mechanical energy into electricity, have garnered attention for their potential to contribute to renewable energy generation. However, it’s essential to recognize that the energy produced by these floors is relatively modest compared to other renewable sources like solar or wind. Instead of focusing solely on their energy output, let’s explore the broader impact they can have.

How much power do Kinetic Floors generate?

Depending on the force applied, these floors can generate approximately 2 Watts per step, with the potential to reach up to 35 Watts when people dance or jump on them, due to  more vigorous force or pressure these actions produce.

While the amount of energy generated may not be enough to power a whole building, charging a smartphone, such as an iPhone, typically requires around 10 to 15 Watt hours (Wh) per charging session (this means that a typical 3000 mAh battery will take approximately 2 hours to fully recharge if it connected to a kinetic Energy Floor tile). Whereas, charging an electric vehicle like the Nio Car usually requires a much larger power input, generally ranging from 7.2 to 20 kilowatts (KW) depending on the car’s battery capacity and charger type.

At this range, the amount of power produced by these kinetic floors makes them beneficial to supplement small-scale energy needs.

The Power of Awareness

Our kinetic energy floors serve as powerful symbols of our collective responsibility towards the environment but while they may not generate massive amounts of electricity, they can generate something equally important: awareness.

1. Mindful Energy Consumption

By walking on these Energy Floors, we can become more conscious of the energy we use in our daily lives. It’s a subtle reminder that our actions, even the small ones, have an impact on our environment. Knowing that you’ll have to do some more stepping to regenerate will sure make people conscious of the way they use power. This definitely will help to reduce power wastage.

2. Inspiration for Change

Our Kinetic Floors inspire us to seek more sustainable energy solutions and make eco-friendly choices. They also remind us that innovation and creativity are essential in our journey towards a greener future.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Kinetic Energy Floors may not be the powerhouse of energy generation, but they are a symbol of hope and awareness. They teach that we have the power to initiate change, no matter how small our contributions may seem. So, let’s step onto these floors with a sense of purpose, knowing that our actions can inspire others and collectively pave the way to a greener and more sustainable world.
